There are 2 ways to fix a dead gateway. One is to have Comcast swap it out for a new one, the other is buy a modem and return the XB6. It's really easy to get Comcast to swap out a gateway. I've had my Google Wifi for 2 1/2 years now. When I initially installed it I just connected it and off I went. Never properly set the Xfinity modem into bridge mode.
