1. January 24, 2021 - 9:50 pm. Hello, I'm fairly new to gun ownership. I have a question about a Dan Wesson pm9 gun. Unfortunately, my brother in law passed over a year ago. My sister in law is willing to sell me his gun. It was purchased about five years ago for about $1500. She said that a couple hundred rounds were shot through it at best.
I-frame with five screws. According to the book, the serial number range ran from 102501 to ~263000, with S&W making 160,499 of these between 1910 & 1917. Figure yours to be one of the earlier ones in this range of years. During that time frame the Model 10 serial numbers began with the letter "C" or "D". In 1962 the serial number was in the C5xxxxx or C6xxxxx range. When the W12 was being produced, the other model they had was a fixed sight service revolver called the D11. The "D" & "W" most likely were for Dan Wesson.Dan Wesson 15-2. Got in a trade. No original box but 2.5"/4"/8" barrels. 4-way original tool & gauge for setting gap between barrel/cylinder. Also 2 original signature wood grips and the Pachmayer Presentation grips in photos. The "alphanumeric" - letters followed by numbers - serial numbers began in 1980. The S&W L frames, your Mod 586, were the first S&W's produced with this type of serial number. Yours then was produced in 1980-81 with some of that serial number as late as Oct of 1982. It's is very nice 357, one of the first ones too. GGF

The 1st and 2nd indicate the year of manufacture for the 6 digit serial numbers which we've been using since 2000. Hi Dan. First, it is indeed a .32 Safety Hammerless Second Model. The spotting feature is the T-type barrel latch. The First Model did not have this feature. Second, while all First Model units did have only 5 digit serial numbers, some Second Models did as well. The change from First Model to Second Model occurred at serial number 91417.

It clearly looks like a capital "I" and not a "1" and is in the fourth position.
