Best thing to do is find a vintage soloist, but eBay has over-inflated their values. The next best options are to try a metal soloist (which Selmer still produces and WWBW sells.) They play harsher than the hard rubber version ...Don't forget in 2016 Selmer came out with new reeds in a Blue Plastic container. The alto reeds were $24.99 and tenor $26.99 from KesslerMusic. The Omega's I bought in the late 1980s with the clear plastic top. I have several of the fuzzy brown boxes from the 1960s too. I've always liked Vandoren better though.
What surprises me the most is that of all the cuts on day 1 I prefer the V12s the most. For my setup it was the most resonant and responsive. I had always expected the V12s to be even more resistant than the blue box. The V21s were more responsive than the blue box reeds, but articulation was a little mushy.
