Evo FXR drivelines have a lot of weak links in them. They were great for 35-hp Shovels in 1982 when they came into production, but when you’re making more than 100 ponies, the motor doesn’t want to stay attached to anything. Dave63. It's a direct swap but the 6-speed trans cover (right side) will have to be used as the gear set extends farther out with the 6-speed. OEM gearing on a 5-speed is the same as a 6-speed up to and including 5th gear, which is 1:1 ratio. 6th gear is .86:1. It looks like that could work as the hardtail kit on a rigid mount frame includes the rear motor mount section as well and would eliminate the issues with the swingarm and what not. Like.

It will not be an easy swap. It can be made to fit. The 2001 has a Magnetti Marelli EFI and you will need the wiring harness and more if yours doesn't have the MM EFI. With the amount you will likely spend to do the conversion you can probably buy a later model used TwinCam ready to ride. Good luck and post pictures if you decide to do it.
