Turned out under the shifter assembly and center console, there are dual ground eyelets. Mine were not tightend to spec. Tech put on a scanner, with in 1 hour had the issue solved and tightend the eyelets to the ground bolt. I definitely noticed this on my 2014 Ram. If you are in a rush and go through the movements as described by Grayman5752 v ery quickly it would stay in "limbo" and show D on the shifter, but still be in neutral. On mine it would also prompt something on the dash cluster, like Vehicle not in park or something like that.Faulty Ignition Switch. Another cause could be a faulty ignition switch or starter motor.
