JM stamps were made in Connecticut by REAL Marlin workers, the REP stamp was made in New York by Remington. It seems to be that the JM stamped guns were better made. They are not flawless and do have problems but not at the rate Remington has been making them. Remington has been getting better though.

Lacking a JM stamp when the gun was clearly made in North Haven CT, in and of itself, shouldn’t be a dealbreaker and should have little bearing on the guns value.
