I collect both ways, drones, and auto-crafter. For the auto-crafter, I extended a 2x2 building out over the lake , and then placed the algae generator and 2 water collectors in the water under the 2x2. The auto-crafter sees all of the algae and water, and creates bacteria automatically. I have the drones move the bacteria to storage.

I have three auto crafters setup making Pulsar Quartz + a nearby T2 storage unit, and then three auto crafters setup for Fusion Cores and the cores are supplied to the trade rockets. Feeding the pular quartz auto crafters can be challenging.
