I suggest two tunnel ram 500 Edelbrocks for ease of tuning and less sensitivity to change, MSD 6 or custom DUI (Performance Dist) if it will fit, full vacuum advance (40-45*) at idle, and a tighter lobe separation angle cam (106>108) of 225* duration. The engine would run better with 6.00/6.20 gears in the 1/8mi. i would say that a 388"er might run 1 tenth better with this much weight, however a 406" junkyard motor, with brodix heads and 6.20 gears i ran 6.26 in the same car. I run an electric shift PG with a 5500 stall and pro brake, but the 406"er broke a rod bolt, so in went the 377" motor.

377: can rev it up past 7500, makes excellent power, helps overcome overpowering small tire cars due to the lack of tq vs a 383 cheap and easy to build. Both the 377 and 383 engines IMO are good and will last a long time.
