R12 is better than R134a. as a refrigerant. but they do not really interchange , if your car is 1994 or later , do not use R12. you can retrofit older systems to use R134a. it is not as cold. you must switch to PAG oil from Mineral oil or Estor oil. Estor oil freezes in the winter time.
